Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has revealed that he reported Manchester United defensive target Denzel Dumfries and that the player wants to stay.

Dumfries has been continuously linked with United since Erik ten Haag was appointed as the club’s manager in 2022.

Amid doubts over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s long-term future as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford, those Dumfries links have resurfaced.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person even suggested that United and Inter could swap players as the Serie A giants are credited with interest in Wan-Bissaka.

Such an arrangement would see Wan-Bissaka seal a move to the San Siro, with Dumfries going the other way and finally joining Ten Hag’s ranks at Old Trafford.

It emerged last month that the Red Devils could also potentially use the outcast Donny van de Beek as extra weight in any deal to secure the services of Dumfries.

It is important to note that the Inter defender’s terms expire in 2025, so if he does not extend, the upcoming period represents the Nerazzurri’s last chance to receive a fee from parting with him.

However, according to Auisilion speaking to Sky Sport Italia (via FCInterNews ), it appears that United will not get the chance to sign Dumfries as he remains keen to extend his stay under Simone Inzaghi.

When asked about a potential change at right back, Ausilio said, “I don’t know.”

“I spoke to Dumfries recently.”

“Apart from his contract situation, which we will discuss with his representatives over the next few days, Dumfries has expressed his desire to stay with me.”

“Then, if other opportunities come up that he’d like to consider, we’ll deal with those things at the right time.”

“But as of today, Dumfries is an Inter player. And he confirmed to me that he wants to stay.” He continued: “So at the moment we are not thinking about anything on the right side other than our own players.”

Dumfries made 31 top-flight appearances for Inter in the 2023/24 season and registered four goals and five assists in the club’s way to winning the Scudetto.
