Outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has never been one for social media, but he made the decision on Saturday before his final game as manager and instantly became an Instagram success when he achieved one million followers.

Klopp announced last January that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season, and the past few months have been preparing for his farewell match at Anfield against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

In 2020, Klopp said he never understood social media, saying he was too old for it, but the 56-year-old now has a verified Instagram account – ‘Kloppo’.

His profile description contains the phrase ‘The Normal One’, a nickname he gave himself when asked in 2015 if he could become ‘someone special’ at Liverpool.

“Leaving this wonderful place is difficult, but I want to stay in touch with you,” Klopp said in his first appearance, looking back at his legacy at Liverpool.

“And even when I’m not on social media, people tell me that social media helps. So, here we go. Bye!”

Klopp leaves Liverpool after nearly 500 matches during which he led them to titles, including their first Premier League title, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
