The future of Manchester United’s controversial striker Mason Greenwood looks closer than ever to being resolved.

United have been supremely busy in the transfer market lately, as they are deep in discussions for Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt.

News also broke last night that the Red Devils had made a second bid for Jarrad Branthwaite and also for Manuel Ugarte.

Unfortunately due to stricter PSR rules and wild spending in the last few windows, Erik ten Hag’s side will most likely have to sell to buy if they want to continue this sort of activity in the window and Greenwood remains one of the club’s most lucrative sources of revenue.

It was reported yesterday that the English striker had turned down a move to SS Lazio, leading to the president of the Italian club to rather childishly announce they were pursuing a player “ten times better” than the United academy product.

Corriere dello Sport report that the former Lazio target is now “one step away” from Marseille as they have made the best bid for the player.

“The French bid is €27 million plus a resale percentage of 40-50%” which according to the paper is “a proposal that appears” unmatched by anyone else.

Lazio had not gone higher than the offer of “€20 million plus a 50% percentage in favour of Manchester United.”

It has already been reported that United were hoping to spark a bidding war for the player and would sell to the highest bidder.

It was relayed here yesterday that CF Valencia were preparing a bid of €25 million for the striker but it now seems Marseille seem best placed to land the English star.

The 22 year old is said to be growing impatient and wants a transfer sorted out as soon as possible, as he wants to continue the next step of his career with certainty.

United would also benefit from a rapid sale as the cash would go a long way to help funding Ineos’ ambitious summer plans and get rid of at least one headache for the new sporting department.
