EA has been developing EA College Football since the return of the rebranded series was announced in 2021, but we haven’t seen a ton of info on the new game.

That’s likely about the change.

Multiple outlets (initially 247 Sports’ Brandon Marcello) have reported EA is set to unveil the game and most likely an official release date during the National Championship Game on Monday, January 8.

I’d bet on a short trailer during halftime, which should give fans something to look forward to, even if the actual game gets out of hand before halftime.

That trailer will likely be available on YouTube after it airs on Monday night. Considering the game is slated to release this summer, it seems logical we’d learn about an official release date on Monday, or at least soon after this season’s final college football game.

The other bit of information that may be unveiled is the cover athlete. A current college football player could be the choice. Perhaps even a college coach could take the spot as the face of the rebooted franchise.

With name, image, and likeness (NIL) structure in place, EA College Football could become one of the year’s biggest hits.

Don’t sleep on the possibility of Colorado’s Deion Sanders or Shedeur Sanders gracing the cover.

The Buffaloes wound up having a disappointing season in 2023 after getting off to a fast start, but armed with a strong recruiting class and notable work in the transfer portal, Colorado and the Sanders family could make some noise in 2024.

Deion and Co. moved the needle like no other program during the regular season; it would be a missed opportunity for EA Sports tab Prime and his family in some way to promote the return of the game.

Imagine Shedeur Sanders on the cover of the standard edition and Deion on the PRIME edition (deluxe edition). The PRIME edition could come with special Deion cards as a pre-order bonus, and naturally, those cards would depict the all-time great during his days with Florida State for use in EA College Football Ultimate Team.

I’m speculating, but anyone who has paid attention to EA and sports gaming over the years can see how that scenario could come to fruition.

USC’s Caleb Williams, Oregon’s Bo Nix, Washington’s Michael Penix, Michigan’s JJ McCarthy, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, or Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels could also get the nod.

In any case, it’s an exciting time for sports gamers and college football fans who have longed for the return of a college football video game.

It won’t be long now.
