Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given fans some insight on the injuries sustained by Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro during the club’s 2-1 loss against Arsenal at SoFi Stadium.

United took the lead just 10 minutes in through Hojlund, who muscled off Ayden Heaven to guide the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle.

Gabriel Jesus restored parity when he blindsided Hary Amass to tap it in from close range. There’s a good chance that the Brazilian striker was offside for his goal.

Gabriel Martinelli came on in the second half and grabbed Arsenal’s second of the match with nine minutes left on the clock.

United would go on to win the penalty shootout which took place after full-time, with Jadon Sancho converting the decisive kick.

Most fans were waiting with bated breath to find out the extent of the injuries suffered by Hojlund and new singing Leny Yoro. Both players were forced off in the opening 45 minutes after going down with physical setbacks.

Hojlund was spotted leaving the stadium relatively comfortably. Meanwhile, while Yoro was being substituted, the Frenchman was limping.

Ten Hag told club media after the final whistle, “Of course it is too short [to know about their injuries] and we have to wait over 24 hours, then we will hopefully know more.”

“We were careful especially with Leny [Yoro] as he only did 50 per cent of the [training] sessions. He has to come up but let’s be positive and see what comes out.”

Ten Hag said about the match, “I think [the game] was a very good level for the third week of pre-season, from both sides, but in the first half I thought we were the better team. We scored a very good goal, a very good ball in behind from [Marcus] Rashford and then [Rasmus] Hojlund with a very good move and a finish, I was very pleased. We also created some more good chances and we then conceded the goal which was offside.”

On Hojlund’s goal, the Dutch coach remarked, “In such occasions he is very strong and he is a threat for every defence and he has [those] scoring abilities.”

In yet another game, Ten Hag made a raft of personnel changes at the interval, making 10 in total. The United boss explained, “It was different, it was a mixed team and this was the first time they have played together. We had a player playing full-back for the first time in his life [James Scanlon] and then you have to play against experienced Premier League players, that is not easy.”

“I think at the second goal we let him down a little bit and we could help him there by giving him a little bit more support by supporting or covering. Overall I think the team played a good performance and we could have drawn this game.”

The Red Devils return to action on Thursday when they take on La Liga side Real Betis. Ten Hag called on his players to recover quick and be ready for that meeting.
