Former Manchester United performance analyst Steve Brown sent a poignant message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS after he was made redundant as part of the club’s cost-cutting measures.

Earlier in the summer, it emerged that United were set to make almost a quarter of their staff redundant in a major money-saving scheme by the new ownership.

Desperate to ensure that United remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, it emerged that up to 250 of the club’s employees would be let go.

This decision was made following a wide-scale review into the Red Devils, soon after Ratcliffe completed his 27.7% partial investment.

As part of his deal with the Glazers, the British businessman assumed full control of United’s sporting operations.

The Athletic stated that the money saved in the redundancy process would be channelled into the coffers of Erik ten Hag’s transfer budget.

In a LinkedIn post, Brown – who was unfortunately made redundant – warned United not to lose their soul in pursuit of financial gain.

Brown wrote, “So after 23 years of loyal service, my time has come to leave Manchester United, not by choice but via a redundancy program.”

“Not the way I had dreamed, but these things are sent to test us. I have enjoyed some of the most fantastic times, met absolute legends of the game, and been part (only a small part) of some legendary moments.”

“Not sure what doors will open or what path to take at 52, but I will keep knocking on doors. I would like to think that my skill set is suitable for recruitment and would love to follow that route. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.”

“I wish Manchester United all the best for the future. It has changed so much in 23 years, some good, some not so.”

“Don’t lose the soul of the club to save a few quid. The people who were there made it such a special place, rich with history. Onward to the next chapter.”

According to The Express, Brown was handed a job by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2001 as a scouting administrator. He went on to become a first-team assistant analyst alongside a role as performance analyst of the reserves and under-18s for a decade, between 2003 and 2013.

Following Fergie’s departure, Brown moved to the academy department before his final capacity as United’s loans analyst.

United return to action this weekend when they take on Manchester City at Wembley for the Community Shield.
