Manchester United have made a transfer decision on Sofyan Amrabat, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Amrabat signed for United on an initial loan deal following his impressive performances with Morocco during the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

As part of the deal to bring Amrabat to Old Trafford, United retained the option to make his stay at the club permanent for €20million (£16.8m) rising to €25m (£21.8m).

The 27-year-old struggled to fully settle at United, although his form significantly improved in the latter stages of the campaign. He started in the FA Cup final as his side beat Pep Guardiola’s men 2-1 at Wembley to win the domestic competition.

Amrabat’s performance on that occasion was so good that the legendary Paul Scholes likened him to Gennaro Gattuso.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were yet to make a definitive decision on Amrabat, although his chances of carrying on in the red shirt were mentioned to be slim.

Earlier today, it was stated that Erik ten Hag’s side had a deadline of less than 24 hours to make permanently sign the Fiorentina man.

However, according to Romano, United have told Fiorentina they will not trigger Amrabat’s buy option.

Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Manchester United have informed Fiorentina that they will not trigger €20m buy option clause for Sofyan Amrabat.”

“Told Man United remain interested in Amrabat and willing to discuss different conditions, as Erik ten Hag likes him.”

“There’s interest also from other clubs.”

Romano’s information is reiterated by Italian outlet Tutto Mercardo Web who explain, “No stay at Manchester United for Sofyan Amrabat (27 years old), who at least for the moment will return to Fiorentina and will make himself available to the new coach Raffaele Palladino for the summer retreat that the Tuscan team is holding at Viola Park.”

“In the last few hours Fiorentina have received an official communication from Manchester United, who have made it known that they are not interested in activating the option available to them for the definitive purchase of the Moroccan midfielder.”

Amrabat is expected to report back to Fiorentina on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest to resume training with the Serie A outfit.

In the past, he has been linked to clubs such as Galatasaray, Fulham and AC Milan.

Meanwhile, it’s thought that United remain on the hunt for reinforcements in the middle of the park. The 20-time English champions are still in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Manuel Ugarte.

Other targets are Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad and Benfica’s Joao Neves.
