Manchester United are working on a loan plus obligation deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils have been looking to find a partner for Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield this summer and it was reported back in June that Ugarte was one player they were keen on.
It has been widely reported that Ugarte has since become the priority target for the club in this position and they agreed personal terms with the player last month.
Ugarte is reported to be “pushing like crazy” to get the deal over the line but United and PSG have been thus far unable to get close to agreeing a fee that both sides deem fair.
The French champions have consistently asked north of €60 million, while United view this as unrealistic.
Therefore despite negotiations continuing there has been a bit of a stalemate in regard to a deal, but Fabrizio Romano’s latest update could spark progress.
The Italian journalist reports that “Manchester United are working on loan with obligation to buy proposal for Manuel Ugarte.”
“Negotiations to continue with this formula as Jorge Mendes’s leading talks with Paris Saint-Germain.”

The loan this summer could be crucial as United have been restricted to what they can spend due to strict PSR rules and not having to hand over a significant sum of money outside of a loan fee would significantly help to smooth the path for a deal.
In addition, Romano’s mention of his agent Mendes is also important as his role in the deal has always been credited as a very important factor in potentially reaching a positive conclusion.
What’s more, the obligation factor of buying the midfielder next summer could be enough to satisfy PSG that they will get guaranteed money next year and United may even be willing to pay more knowing it won’t affect this year’s finances.
The fact that PSG are now willing to discuss this option perhaps demonstrates the positive flow of talks and that the two sides are now more willing to hammer out a deal before the window closes in 10 days.
