Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has rubbished reports that Paris Saint-Germain cooled down their pursuit of Manchester United defender Leny Yoro over fears of potential injuries.

Last month, United officially announced the blockbuster signing of Yoro from Lille in a transfer worth £42m plus £10m in add-ons.

The Red Devils successfully warded off stiff competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and PSG to land one of Europe’s hottest defensive prospects.

In his first outing for United against Rangers at Murrayfield, Yoro was sensational and showed why the 20-time English champions went above and beyond to secure his services. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury in the club’s subsequent pre-season clash vs. Arsenal.

United recently confirmed that the Frenchman is set to be sidelined for around three months as he recovers from a fractured metatarsal.

This means that the 18-year-old could miss as many as 15 matches –  a major blow in his efforts to hit the ground running at Old Trafford.

According to FootballTransfers, PSG didn’t advance their interest in Yoro because they harboured concerns over his fitness moving forward.

“Paris Saint-Germain decided not to push for the signature of Leny Yoro owing to concerns over injuries relating to his development, FootballTransfers has been told.”

“Club sources at PSG have informed us that they decided to back away from the deal as they had some physical concerns over the player, in regards to potential injuries.”

It’s however bizarre and puzzling that PSG would have decided not to go for Yoro due to a perceived proneness to injury.

Before he signed for United, the central defender had a nearly perfect injury record. As outlined by Transfermarkt, the new United No. 15 has only ever missed one game in his senior career due to a physical issue. This was last season when he was sidelined for just three days with an adductor pain setback.

To therefore suggest that the Ligue 1 giants failed to land Yoro because of injuries is baseless.

This was also re-affirmed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano who said on his YouTube channel, “Let me clarify some things, first of all, Manchester United have all the guarantees on the physical situation of Leny Yoro.”

“So they are not worried about long-term, he’s been really unlucky…but in general they are not worried at all and the tests were absolutely perfect. Reports of other clubs pulling out of the race for Leny Yoro because of the physical condition of the player is something I can guarantee is not the case.”

“All the clubs wanted to sign Leny Yoro…PSG, Liverpool and Real Madrid of course. All of them wanted Yoro and no one pulled out of the race because he was not in good condition. This is absolutely not the case.”

Romano added that United remain calm and are fully supporting Yoro in his journey to return to action.
