Fabrizio Romano has ruled out a move by Manchester United for Atalanta midfielder Ederson as their “full focus” has always been on Manuel Ugarte this summer.
Reports had emerged from Italy in the last week that the Red Devils were considering a move for the Serie A star as the club seeks to bring in a new midfielder before the September 1 deadline.
Alfredo Pedulla, an Italian football journalist, revealed Old Trafford executives were in Bergamo to discuss payment structures relating to the deal agreed with Atalanta to sign Rasmus Hojlund last summer.
Pedulla also contends United officials “asked for information” on Ederson – a player strongly linked with a move away from Italy, with a move to Manchester one possibility.

Translated Tweet: “Today emissaries from #ManchesterUnited were at #Zingonia for some practices related to #Hojlund . They asked for information on #Ederson which is very popular, but we will talk about it again in the next few months. The relations between the clubs are excellent.”
However, Romano has poured cold water on this potential transfer by dismissing the “rumours” between Ederson and United on his YouTube channel.
Instead, the football expert contends, the sole focus at Old Trafford is on securing a deal for Ugarte – PSG’s 23-year-old Uruguayan defensive midfielder.
Romano tells listeners to “forget about other names”, such as Ederson, as options for United this summer, contending Atalanta are “not selling” the 25-year-old midfielder this summer.
The transfer guru reveals negotiations between United and PSG are “absolutely in advance” with the potential of a loan move with an obligation to buy one style of deal being discussed in talks.
This arrangement would enable the Red Devils to delay payments on Ugarte’s transfer until next summer, when the club’s financial situation should be more improved.
However, as relayed by The Peoples Person here, Sky Sports contend United’s “preference” remains a permanent transfer this summer, suggesting the club retains the ability to sign Ugarte within their current budget.
While it remans to be seen what type of deal is struck for the Uruguayan, given these conflicting reports, it feels increasingly certain that he will be signed before the September 1 deadline in less than two weeks time, be it on loan or on a permanent deal.
