Facundo Pellistri has bid Manchester United fans goodbye following confirmation of his permanent transfer to Greek side Panathinaikos.
Earlier today, United officially relayed that Pellistri has joined Panathinaikos.
It’s understood that the Red Devils reached an agreement with Diego Alonso’s side at around the €6m mark, with a further €2m in add-ons.
United also included a significant 45% sell-on clause as part of their deal with Panathinaikos.
In addition to this, United have a three-year buy-back clause in the arrangements taking Pellistri to Greece.
Considering how his development at United stalled after arriving from Penarol in 2020 and the two underwhelming loan spells in Spain at Alaves and Granada, United can’t have too many complaints about Pellistri’s price.
Factor in his expiring contract and the structure of the deal negotiated by United certainly appears to be smart business.
Pellistri took to social media and sent an emotional farewell message to United supporters.
The Uruguayan wrote, “Dear Reds, my time has come to say goodbye.”
“It’s been an incredible journey, full of unforgettable moments and experiences that I will cherish forever.”
“Your unwavering support, both on and off the pitch, is something I will remember forever. I’ve grown as a player and as a person, and that’s because of you.”
“As you say, once a Red, always a Red. Manchester will always hold a special place in my heart.”
“Wishing the club and all of you nothing but the best for the future.”
Interestingly, key United target and Pellistri’s international teammate Manuel Ugarte responded to his post with a heart emoji on Instagram.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of Ugarte, either on a permanent move or a loan with an obligation to buy.
