Charles Oliveira has found himself being slammed by Mateusz Gamrot for considering moving up from the lightweight division to possibly face Colby Covington. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, ‘Chaos’ had called out Oliveira for a “legacy fight”. He stated, “I think a guy like Charles Oliveira makes sense. He was out there saying the other day that he wants to come up to welterweight. So, I’m the king of f*cking Brazil, man”
In his trademark fashion, Covington claimed that he was a “better all-around mixed martial artist” than the Brazilian and wanted to test himself against the former champion. As such, in a response made to UFC Brasil, ‘Do Bronx’ responded by stating, “Could it be a big fight? It could be. It’s a fight that would make me money, going up a division and fighting stronger”, but he also confessed that the ultimate decision for making this fight sits with the UFC and CEO Dana White.

However, the entire situation hasn’t sat well with no.5 ranked UFC lightweight, Mateusz Gamrot, who is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 299. In a scathing post made on X, ‘Gamer’ stated, “I asked to fight Oliveira, but he called out Colby instead. Guy who only fights once a year and is 2-3 since 2019. We thought you were better than that, @CharlesDoBronxs. You know I’ll give you fire on the ground…but maybe that’s why you’d rather fight Colby…”
Gamrot is currently on a 3-fight win streak in the lightweight division and has prevailed over names like Jalin Turner, Rafael Fiziev, and Rafael Dos Anjos. As such, a fight against Oliveira has the potential to allow him to make a statement in the 155 lbs division with a win over the former champion under his belt. However, the fans appear to have sided with the Brazilian as Gamrot was slammed in the comments for his statement about Charles Oliveira. Let’s take a look at what the community had to say.
Charles Oliveira finds favor with the fans as they turn on Mateusz Gamrot for his comments
Fans pointed out that Oliveira’s record speaks for itself as ‘Do Bronx’ had been on an 11-fight streak before his loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 280, with most of the wins on his streak coming via finish, as such, the fans think that he deserves to chase after ‘red-panty nights’
“He already won his belt – went on a tear finishing everyone not names Islam. Now he wants money fights and I’m here for it.”

One fan claimed that Gamrot’s wins are a result of “robbery” in their opinion as such they do not want to entertain the idea of him facing a former champion like Oliveira
“Gamrot has like 3 wins by robbery so I really don’t wanna hear sh*t”
Another fan pointed out that fighting someone like Gamrot isn’t going to help raise Oliveira’s UFC stock or get him a significant pay-day and even claimed that if ‘Gamer’ were to be cut from the UFC, he hasn’t left an impact on the fans that they’ll “care” about him being gone.
“Olivera gains nothing from fighting you my guy. If you got released today I don’t think anyone would care”
A fan also pointed out that Colby Covington, despite his recent string of losses, is still a more credentialed wrestler than Gamrot as ‘Chaos’ has held the interim UFC welterweight title in the past
“As if Colby isn’t a more gifted wrestler then gamrot ? Tf is he yapping about”
However, a contrasting opinion was also put forth by one fan who pointed out that Gamrot has a win over Arman Tsarukyan who recently defeated Oliveira at UFC 300 via split decision, and so, Gamrot’s call-out of Oliveira does make sense
“why do people say Gamrot is a nobody, he has an amazing record and fought a lot of great fighters? he even won a very questionable fight over Tsarukyan but still won so stop with this nonsense..”
But another fan wanted to see Charles Oliveira and Colby Covington be the co-main event for the Ilia Topuria vs Max Holloway featherweight title clash
“Charles Colby would be the perfect co main for ilia vs max”

Fans also re-iterated the fact that ‘Do Bronx’ has fought the very best the 155 lbs division had to offer and at this point in his career, fights with better financial rewards would be appropriate for the Brazilian
“Olives deserves money fights at this point, he has nothing to prove and fought all the killers”
Ultimately, the fan consensus leaned towards supporting Oliveira’s decision to seek financially rewarding fights. They believe he has proven himself against the best in the lightweight division and while Gamrot’s criticism underscores the competitive nature of the sport, Oliveira’s impressive record and fan support suggest he has earned the right to pursue high-profile, lucrative fights.
