Manchester United has been the home for some of football’s finest players throughout its rich and illustrious history.

Stars from at home and abroad have donned the famous red shirt, hoping to leave their mark at the Theatre of Dreams.

One man who did just that was Russian winger Andrei Kanchelskis, who became a fan favourite during his four year spell at the club.

Kanchelskis scored 34 goals in 152 games and won two Premier League titles for United before leaving in 1995.

The now 55-year-old is now residing in his native land and was involved in an altercation after the European Championships final on Sunday.

As reported by The Metro, the episode left Kanchelskis with a nasty looking black eye which he shared on social media.

Speaking to Russian media, the former United man shed some light on the incident, explaining it was a non-football related matter.

“I’m fine now. A small conflict, we clashed over interests after the final match of the Euros.

“I want to note that the conflict did not happen because of the football match – but a personal matter,” he said.

Kanchelskis admitted he has notified authorities and will follow police procedure throughout the subsequent process.

“I wrote a statement to the police about my offender. What will happen next I don’t want to advertise it. A trial is possible, and I will wait for the decision. We will do everything within the law,” he added.

Kanchelskis enjoyed stints at Everton, Rangers and Southampton as well as a loan spell at Manchester City after leaving United, before eventually retiring in 2007.

The lightning quick winger has since tried his hand in management but hasn’t enjoyed the same success as his playing days, recently leaving his latest post at Kyrgyz side Muras United.

Everyone connected with United will wish Andrei a speedy recovery from his injury.
