Speculation is growing that Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus could be heading to Major League Soccer (MLS) after his final appearance for the German club.

According to reports by several journalists, Reus is set to decide his future in the coming days, with MLS emerging as a likely destination.

LA Galaxy close to signing Marco Reus

Reus, who has several offers on the table, has been linked with MLS sides Charlotte FC, St. Louis CITY SC, and LA Galaxy.

Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reported that LA Galaxy are currently the front-runners.

The player’s agents reportedly met with LA Galaxy officials at Wembley Stadium following Dortmund’s loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

LA Galaxy are now expected to intensify their efforts to sign the 35-year-old, though they will need to compensate Charlotte due to MLS’s player discovery rules.

Reus, who spent 12 years with Dortmund, will depart from his hometown club this summer.

Both the club and the player decided not to extend his contract, which expires in June.

Throughout his tenure, Reus played 429 matches, scored 170 goals, and provided 131 assists.

Despite winning the German Cup twice, the Bundesliga title eluded him.

Roman Burki: MLS has a good chance of nabbing Reus

St. Louis CITY SC goalkeeper Roman Bürki expressed his hopes of seeing Reus in MLS soon.

“I talked to Marco Reus ahead of the Champions League game. I texted, we didn’t talk about the move then because he was obviously focused on the game, but Major League Soccer has a very good chance of seeing him next year or the summer,”Bürki told ESPN.

Bürki also shared his willingness to make sacrifices for Reus’s potential move.

“I can’t tell which team, I am still trying [to convince him] but at some point it’s up to [sporting director] Lutz [Pfannenstiel] and [club owner] Carolyn [Kindle] to make a move,” he said. “I’d be willing to give up the captain’s armband if that’s the price to pay for Reus arriving at St. Louis.”

St. Louis CITY SC head coach Bradley Carnell described the potential reunion of Bürki and Reus as a “fairytale,” but urged caution.

“Every time there is a transfer window opening, whether it’s our club or not, everyone gets names thrown out at them. We’ve had plenty of names, whether it’s to join now or in six months,”Carnell told ESPN.

“The Marco Reus rumors are flattering, it would be something interesting for the league and our team. It’s one of Roman’s best friends, it would be a nice fairytale story. But sometimes reality is far from that. We’re working ways and figuring things out, but right now there’s nothing to be said about the Marco Reus rumor. But the window opens up pretty soon.”

St. Louis owner Carolyn Kindle acknowledged the rumors but echoed Carnell’s sentiments.

“It’s absolutely amazing [being linked to Reus.] In full disclosure, it’s difficult to separate fact from fiction,”Kindle said.

“Sometimes I call and ask about the rumors. But I thought it would take us three to five years to get to this point of being linked to these figures and we’re on year two and these rumors are amazing. The people of St. Louis are excited.”

As Reus bids farewell to Borussia Dortmund, his next move remains the subject of much speculation.

If he does join MLS, it could mark the start of a new chapter in his illustrious career, bringing his talent and experience to American soccer fans.
