Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi has reportedly agreed to become the next Manchester United manager, starting from next season.
Despite masterminding a brilliant 2-1 comeback win against Brentford over the weekend, there is still uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s position at United.
The Red Devils are currently in 12th position in the Premier League with 11 points to their name, having won just three of their opening eight top-flight fixtures.
Ten Hag survived the October international break when speculation was rife that he could be sacked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the new football leadership group.
Indeed, there was an executive meeting in London where it’s believed that Ten Hag’s future was discussed. It appears that the resolution of the summit was to afford the 54-year-old more time to turn the club’s situation around.
However, if United fail to nail down a consistent run of good performances and results, the possibility of the hierarchy pulling the trigger and parting ways with Ten Hag cannot be entirely ruled out.
A top coach who has been repeatedly mentioned as a potential replacement for Ten Hag is Inzaghi. A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Italian is a “serious contender” to become the next United gaffer.
It was suggested that he was offered the United job with immediate effect but he declined the offer, insisting he’s happy at the San Siro.
The reliable David Ornstein later rubbished claims that Inzaghi was approached by United – a stance that was reaffirmed by Italian journalist Gianni Visnadi.
However, a new shocking report now alleges that Inzaghi is “ready to betray” Inter after accepting an offer from United.
According to InterLive.it, “Simone Inzaghi has already given his green light to coach Manchester United in the 2025/26 season. The details of the operation that will finally take shape in the coming weeks are crazy.”
The outlet states that the 48-year-old said yes to the 20-time English champions after “a couple of video interviews” with the board. It’s thought that there were at least two meetings between Inzaghi and United.
Inzaghi has also apparently been offered “an almost unlimited budget” to reinforce the United squad next summer, in addition to a very lucrative three-year contract.
While Inzaghi would indeed be an impeccable appointment at United, it’s important to take this revelation with a pinch of salt until it’s confirmed by slightly more reliable sources or journalists.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that foreign media have jumped the gun when it comes to United news.
Inzaghi’s Inter – who won the Scudetto in 2023/24 – are currently in second position in Serie A, two points adrift of table leaders Napoli.
