Manchester United’s pursuit for a new midfielder has seemingly slowed down, with the club struggling to find an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for Manuel Ugarte.
Earlier this month, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming that United have agreed personal terms with the Uruguayan star. However, the two clubs remain far apart in their valuations for the combative midfielder, with PSG allegedly demanding north of £50 million.
At the moment, United appear to be prioritising rejuvenating their backline and are unlikely to spend big on a midfielder, especially without making any sales in that department.
Interest from Saudi Arabia for Casemiro has cooled down and the Brazilian has become a regular fixture in Erik ten Hag’s pre-season lineups this summer.
However, Scott McTominay continues to attract interest from Fulham, who are prepared to test United’s resolve once again.
Fulham have reportedly already seen their offer of around £17m for McTominay turned down by the Red Devils.
Accordingly, the London outfit switched their focus on their other pursuits, including the signing of Emile Smith Rowe.
As per Sky Sports, Fulham have agreed a deal in principle with Arsenal for Smith Rowe.
After finalising this transfer, they are expected to “go back in with an improved offer” for the Scotland international.
The academy graduate has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford. McTominay has underlined his importance under Ten Hag with many notable goals. Still, question marks remain over his suitability to the Dutch coach’s side, owing to his lack of technical ability in possession.
The report from Sky Sports adds that the 27-year-old’s future could have an influence on United’s search for a new midfielder.
Apart from Ugarte, United are also interested in Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. Sofyan Amrabat, who has returned to Fiorentina upon the expiration of his loan deal in Manchester, is also under consideration.
