It has been more than a year since Manchester United’s long-serving goalkeeper, David de Gea, departed Old Trafford upon the expiration of his contract.

However, De Gea’s name continues to grab the attention of United fans every now and then. Among the many reasons, the chief is question marks over his next club.

After spending 12 memorable years between the sticks in England, the Spaniard has spent 12 months without a club.

Earlier this week, The Peoples Person covered a report revealing that the 33-year-old has received several proposals and “expects to have news about his future next week.”

Now, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that the Spain international has been approached by Serie A outfit Genoa.

The free agent has been presented with Genoa’s project and is supposedly considering their proposal. The report reads: “David de Gea has given his opening to the Genoa project.” However, as things stand, no agreement has been reached between the parties.

Manager Alberto Gilardino is looking for a shot-stopper who is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, and the former Atletico Madrid talent is viewed as a ‘good fit’ for his preferred style of play.

The Italian outfit are in the market for a new goalkeeper after losing Josep Martinez to Inter, who were interested in De Gea last summer.

Interestingly, United were also linked with Martinez amid uncertainty over the long-term future of Andre Onana’s understudy, Altay Bayindir.

Meanwhile, apart from Genoa, De Gea has reportedly received offers from the Saudi Pro League and the MLS.

The United legend also found his name on the radar of an English club, but he was quick to turn down the opportunity due to his long association with United.

De Gea’s love for United clearly remains intact, but he is believed to be upset with Erik ten Hag and the club’s former football director John Murtough over his much-talked-about exit.
