Reported Manchester United defensive target Gleison Bremer has put pen to paper on fresh terms to extend his stay at Juventus.

Heading into the transfer window, signing defensive reinforcements was a top priority for United. The Red Devils already secured the services of 18-year-old defensive prospect Leny Yoro but he suffered an injury during the club’s pre-season clash vs. Arsenal at SoFi Stadium. Yoro is expected to be sidelined for three months while he recovers from the physical setback he sustained.

Even before Yoro got injured, United were plotting to sign another centre-back. All eyes seem to be on Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt as talks remain ongoing with Bayern Munich to try and reach an agreement over a transfer fee for the Netherlands international.

Another central defender previously mentioned to be on United’s radar was Bremer.

A report covered by The Peoples Person back in May relayed that Erik ten Hag’s side were willing to fork out €50 million to tempt Juventus into selling Bremer.

It was stated that United were also prepared to increase the Brazilian’s salary to €10 million a year.

Bremer himself added fuel to the fire when he responded to the speculation surrounding his future by insisting that he would like to try plying his trade in the Premier League.

In recent weeks, links to the 27-year-old appear to have gone cold but if the latest development regarding his transfer situation is anything to go by, United will almost certainly not be landing him.

This is because Bremer has elected to stay in Turin for a bit longer.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player signed a new contract with Juventus to remain part of their ranks until June 2029.

Romano noted that the value of Bremer’s release clause is set to increase from the summer of 2025 and will no longer be worth €60m.

Juventus also officially announced news of Bremer’s new contract via their official social media channels.

While Bremer is out of reach for United this summer, the fact that his release clause has not been totally removed suggests the South American still wants a degree of control over his future. The door may therefore not be entirely shut for United.
