Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has once again renewed his feud with former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman left the Premier League side in 2022 to rejoin Juventus, but after a series of injuries and a ban for the use of an illegal substance, he was prohibited from football for four years.
This punishment was significantly reduced earlier this month and he will be able to return to playing again this coming March.
While his future will most likely be away from Juventus, the World Cup winner will be able to join a different team on a free in January.
There have already been reports that Olympique de Marseille are in “advanced negotiations” with him.
British pundit Souness has once again reignited his feud with the player whilst appearing on the YouTube channel Three Up Front, when he claimed that he isn’t worth signing on a free.
When asked if he would take a gamble on the player for a free he said, “No. How do I see him? Extremely talented, but he’s just a wasted talent.”
The Scot once again reiterated his criticism that winning the World Cup in 2018 was bad for the player at such a young age of around 23 years old, as he seemingly felt he had achieved it all, “from that point on, I think he got in his armchair.”
Comparing his own playing style and career, the former Liverpool man asserted, “I took it personally when I was playing against someone. It’s the only position (central midfield) on the pitch where you are against someone who’s wanting to do more or less the exact same things as you want to do on a football pitch.”
“The only thing I was taught to do, from the first minute, was to work harder than the guy I was in against. He (Pogba) goes out to play and to show everyone how cute and clever he is. Instead of saying, ‘I’m going out to make him (his opposite midfielder) have a miserable day’.”
During the Frenchman’s second spell at United, criticism from the then Sky Sports pundit was almost on a weekly basis and became an on-running joke online as to why Souness seemed so offended by the mere presence of the player.
This led to Pogba publicly commenting on the issue in 2020 when he stated, “I didn’t even know who he was, really” when asked about the pundit’s views on him.
