With the Big 12 Conference consistently producing some of the top quarterbacks in college football each season, one ESPN writer predicted on Saturday that two representatives of the league are in for a comeback season in 2024.
Cam Rising missed the entirety of the 2023 season due to a lingering knee injury, while Daniels missed the bulk of action for Kansas, dealing with some back and shoulder issues.
McElroy started by discussing Cam Rising, saying, “When we watch Cam Rising under center in the two years prior, back-to-back Pac 12 championships. Just a winner. A guy who understands what to do with the football, how to win, and how to get his team galvanized, so him being back in the fold this year for Kyle Whittingham and company as they transition into the Big 12 has many people believing Utah might actually be the team to beat in their first year in the Big 12.”
As for Daniels, McElory mentioned his history as the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year in 2023 prior to his injury-plagued season.
“When Jalon Daniels is on his game, few players in the sport are as exciting and as much (fun) to watch as him,” McElroy said. “He’s a tremendous athlete, and I think if you watch, granted, the games that he played last year aren’t always against top-tier competition, but he played against BYU, and he played against Illinois. Illinois had a pretty good defense, but he chopped them up from start to finish in that game.”
With both Cam Rising and Jalon Daniels set to return to action in 2024, paired with players like Shedeur Sanders, Noah Fifita, Avery Johnson, Rocco Becht, KJ Jefferson, and many more, the Big 12 Conference may feature the nation’s best group of signal callers.
