HAMZAH Sheeraz is the new European middleweight champion after disposing of Tyler Denny in double quick time. While many expected Sheeraz to have too much for the 160-pound ‘Cinderella Man’, the fashion in which he got rid of a competent champion was hugely impressive.

It couldn’t have started much worse for Denny, who was caught cold and dropped by a cuffing left hand high on the head just seconds into the opening round. Sheeraz eased off and saw out the remainder of the session.

Tyler Denny moved and probed in the second round, looking to get himself back in it. Taller, leaner, stronger and with powerful fists, Sheeraz planted his feet and let the gloves flow. Another heavy-handed flurry prompted referee Mark Bates to call the fight off at 2-05.

“I’m tired of calling for world title fights now,” Sheeraz said after the mauling. “Any 160 name, bring it on, let’s have it. That’s what it’s about at the end of the day, delivering.”

Sheeraz now has a pick of future foes. The WBC Silver title might take him towards world champion Carlos Adames. Chris Eubank Jr’s name was mentioned, along with Janibek Alimkhanuly, who will defend his two world titles in Australia over the coming months. World title aspirant Sheeraz is now 21-0 (17), while Tyler Denny is 19-3-3 (1).
