With club football in the background, Manchester United’s players are preparing to represent their country at international level.

This summer alone, there are the Euros, the Copa America and the Olympics right after that.

International football is where players from different clubs mix and ignite sparks for a potential transfer in the future.

Harry Maguire revealed to Sky Sports that he tried to do something like that when he first met Jude Bellingham in training in England.

Maguire said that after one or two training sessions with him, he knew he was a special talent for United to keep an eye on.

He said he returned to Old Trafford and told United all about him in a bid to give his club an edge over other potential suitors.

He said: “I can’t say enough about Jude, he came to England and I knew within a session or two how he was going to go.

“I went back to my club and told them all about him, but he took a different path and did really well for Real Madrid. I knew he would when he signed there and long may it continue.”

United clearly took Maguire’s advice to heart as they were believed to be in the running long before Maguire even tried to help.

They were in the mix when he left Birmingham for Dortmund, even calling in the cavalry in the form of Sir Alex Ferguson and more to convince Bellingham to move to Old Trafford.

He opted to move to Dortmund instead, which he is unlikely to ever regret as it gave him the launch pad to earn his dream move to Real Madrid.

When he left Dortmund, United were never realistically in the running for his signature as they fell behind the European giants in their pursuit of top trophies.

In his first season at the club, Bellingham has already won the domestic league title and his team are favorites to lift the Champions League trophy, a competition that United will not be in next summer, having been knocked out at the group stage this year.

Maguire and the club did their best but it was never going to happen!
