Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has finally landed a new club and is set to make his long-awaited return to football, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

De Gea has been without a team since last summer when he parted ways with United after more than a decade of loyal service.

At Old Trafford, the Spaniard made an astonishing 545 appearances as he helped the club win the Premier League, an FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and a Europa League title.

He has been linked to several clubs in Europe and outside the continent but it’s believed he rejected most of the offers that came his way because he was waiting for the right opportunity.

It was stated that De Gea was considering retirement unless he was made the starting goalkeeper at a top European outfit.

At one point, he seemed like he was on the brink of joining Genoa but that move collapsed due to his excessive wage demands.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Fiorentina were confident of landing the former United man, who reduced his salary expectations and was now willing to accept €3 million per season.

Romano has given an update and indicated that an agreement has been reached between Fiorentina and De Gea, for the shot-stopper to ply his trade at the Artemio Franchi Stadium next season.

The Italian journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “David de Gea to Fiorentina, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for former Manchester United goalkeeper.”

“Contract until June 2025 plus option for one more season. Travel & medical booked.”

“Deal done by Spanish agents Jose Lorenzo, Jose Carlos and Italian intermediaries GG11 Agency.”

The switch to Fiorentina represents a new chapter for De Gea, who will now continue with his storied career in Serie A.
