HIGHLIGHTS: Catch up on the action as Russell beats Hamilton in thrilling Belgian Grand Prix

George Russell was hailed as the “tyre whisperer” by Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff as he beat team mate Lewis Hamilton in a thrilling Belgian Grand Prix.

The younger Briton’s one-stop strategy played out perfectly as he clung onto the lead at the end, having initially pitted for his hard tyres on lap 10 of the 44-lap race.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri also threatened to have a say at the end of the race as he rapidly closed in on the Mercedes pair out front, but had to settle for third.

Max Verstappen, starting 11th due to an engine penalty, recovered to finish fifth with Lando Norris in sixth. Charles Leclerc, who had started on pole, came home in fourth with his team mate Carlos Sainz seventh. Sergio Perez would finish in eighth after his front-row start, though he did bag the fastest lap at the end.
