Austin FC defender Brendan Hines-Ike was voted to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday bench for his role in the team’s 1-1 away draw at San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at PayPal Park. Hines-Ike earns his first Team of the Matchday honor of 2024.
With Austin trailing 1-0 just before halftime, Hines-Ike rose highest in a crowded penalty area to head home a free kick delivery from Owen Wolff. It was Hines-Ike’s first goal contribution since joining the Verde & Black ahead of the 2024 season.
Hines-Ike has appeared in 12 of the team’s 15 matches so far with 11 starts. He is passing at a 92 percent accuracy rate while tallying 33 clearances, and has yet to make an error leading to an opposition goal.
