Manchester United are trying to fix their full-back woes this summer but before they can bring in a versatile option, they need to move players on.
Noussair Mazraoui is Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice to come in as the Bayern Munich star is very attack-minded and versatile enough to cover both flanks.
United’s problems on the left were well documented last term with Luke Shaw missing the majority of the season while Tyrell Malacia was sidelined for the whole campaign.
For the deal to go through, the Red Devils need to move on Aaron Wan-Bissaka with West Ham United reportedly leading the chase. So far, their bids have fallen short of United’s demands but they keep pushing.
AWB’s future
With only one year remaining in his current deal, United are reportedly asking for around £18 million, with there remaining a difference in valuation between both English teams.
In even more bad news for West Ham fans, Football Insider have claimed that Inter Milan are trying to hijack the deal and the former Crystal Palace star is more inclined to playing abroad instead of in the English top-flight.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s proposed move to join West Ham has been delayed after an Inter Milan hijack, sources have told Football Insider.
“However, the player’s decision remains a stumbling block for the deal as Wan-Bissaka is said to prefer a move abroad amid interest from Inter Milan.
“The final decision will rest with the player as negotiations continue between the clubs. United are looking to receive £15 million from the deal, while the Hammers are offering closer to £10 million.
“Sources say a deal is expected to be reached between both parties soon, but Wan-Bissaka will take his time before committing to a deal with West Ham.”
Inter vs West Ham for AWB
Even if United and the Hammers reach an agreement, the player will have the final say and it looks to be advantage Inter if the report is to be believed.
United had initially explored a direct swap involving Denzel Dumfries moving to Old Trafford but that did not work out and the Moroccan was identified as the perfect alternative.
Wan-Bissaka has proved over the years that he is adept when it comes to direct duels but has struggled while going forward, something Ten Hag wants from his full-backs.
Injuries did not help and Diogo Dalot usurped him in the pecking order last season. Ultimately, United will incur a massive loss on their initial investment of £50 million back in 2019.
