A swap deal between Manchester United and Napoli could be on the cards this summer if the Italian agent is to be believed.

The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season and finished the Premier League campaign with just 57 goals, the worst in the top 10 alongside Crystal Palace.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund signed for £72m in the summer and has had a roller-coaster first season in England.

On the other hand, he has scored 16 goals in all competitions, with the FA Cup final yet to be played, and is the club’s top goalscorer.

On the other hand, he suffered two significant goal droughts and at times put up embarrassing stats in terms of touches and passes as he seemed to disengage from his teammates.

It has even been reported that his fellow players do not trust him and this has led to a reduced number of passes received by the Dane during his time at the club.

Moreover, a lack of options at the club with Antony Martial out of action since December and United’s failure to sign an experienced striker last summer meant all the pressure was on the 21-year-old forward.

Therefore, it is widely reported that the team from Old Trafford wants to bring in new impressive reinforcements in the summer. And one Italian agent, Andrea D’Amico, suggests there could be a left-field idea to bolster United’s striking options.

In an interview reported by tuttunapoli.net, the agent was asked about Hojlund joining Napoli and claims that a sensational swap deal between the Dane and Victor Osimhen is “feasible” this summer.

Speculating on the Nigerian forward’s future, he said: “He speaks English, the Premier League is the most important championship in the world. He doesn’t go to Barcelona and Real Madrid, and if he doesn’t go to PSG or Bayern, he will only have the Premier League left.”

In addition, “Manchester United respect the characteristics of Osimhen and in short, it is a likely scenario.”

United have been heavily linked with Osimhen in the past, as the forward stole 31 goals in 39 matches last season.

He has had a quieter season this year, scoring 17 in 31 matches in what has been a much more turbulent season for Napoli compared to last.

It has been reported that after seemingly exiting the race for the Nigerian, Erik ten Hag’s men are back in it alongside Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, it seems fantastic that United would walk away from their huge investment in Hojlund after just one season, especially as he is likely to finish as the club’s top goalscorer.

That said, United need depth up front, so even landing a top scorer like Osimhen would be highlighted by the fact that they would still be left with just one established striker in the senior squad if they included Hojlund as part of the deal.

With United’s PSR issues and a reported miniscule transfer budget of £35m before the sale, INEOS will have to get creative with contracts, but this proposed idea seems a bit odd.
