The Italian press still believe that Juventus are in pole position to sign Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho despite late interest from Chelsea.

After the news broke that Sancho had reiterated his desire to leave the club after being left out of the matchday squad against Fulham, he has been linked to numerous teams.

Former side Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona have all been credited with an interest in the winger.

Nonetheless, Juventus have been the club that have pursued a deal for the Englishman the most consistently during the window, but only seem interested in a loan deal, which is not something which appeals to United.

Consequently, news emerged yesterday that the Old Lady’s plans are in serious danger as Chelsea and United are in talks over a deal that would see Sancho move to London and Raheem Sterling move to Old Trafford.

The Italian press still believe that Juve are in the box seat, though, as Calciomercato claims that “Manchester’s position becomes more thorny, because the risk is that they will have to keep the player at least until January” with only three days remaining in the window.

Crucially they also state that Chelsea’s offer is contingent on unwanted players like Ben Chilwell or Raheem Sterling moving to United and that neither “are creating desire at Old Trafford at the moment.”

It must said though that this news has been contrasted in the United Kingdom as it was relayed here last night that the Red Devils’ sporting director Dan Ashworth is “enthusiastic” about bringing Sterling to Old Trafford.

Tuttosport add to this confidence and claim that Juventus are in “pole position” for a deal and “if nothing else materialises”, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli’s “outstretched hand remains at the centre of the scene. It could be decisive.”

There is also confirmation that new talks are planned for today between Juventus and United.

Fabrizio Romano also adds that talks are ongoing with both Chelsea and Juventus but for different types of deal. Juventus only want an option to buy loan deal while Chelsea will buy Sancho but only if United take a player in return.

Crucially, the 24 year old is said to be “open” to both clubs and it is up to United to sort it out.
