Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho could reportedly still seal a move to Chelsea without Raheem Sterling being required to head to Old Trafford as part of the deal.

Sancho’s transfer situation and how it develops is one for fans to keep a close eye on, with just hours left until the summer window closes.

The England international’s future at United is uncertain, more so after he was excluded from Erik ten Hag’s matchday squads for the two opening games of the 2024/25 Premier League season against Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively.

A move to Serie A giants Juventus was mooted but it’s understood that the Italian outfit have since exited negotiations for Sancho and are no longer pursuing him.

At the moment, the likely destination for Sancho – if he were to part ways with United – appears to be Chelsea.

A swap deal involving Sterling, who is not in Enzo Maresca’s plans, has been suggested. It has been repeatedly mentioned that the only way Chelsea can sign Sancho is if a player – most likely Sterling – is included as part of the transfer.

It’s believed that talks have already been held between United and Chelsea to try and reach an agreement.

However, according to The Guardian, it’s still possible that Sancho will complete a switch to Stamford Bridge without a player joining United in exchange.

“There is as strong a chance that Sterling will stay at Chelsea given his contractual situation, although Enzo Maresca has warned him that he will not play a minute if he does not move.”

“Manchester United are also one to watch given that they have held talks with Chelsea over a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho and Sterling. Sancho could still join Chelsea without a player heading in the opposite direction. Aston Villa, Juventus and Crystal Palace have been linked with Sterling.”

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been offered the chance to land Sterling ahead of Ten Hag’s side.

According to Ben Jacobs, while United are not completely out of the race for the Chelsea forward, a move to Arsenal is more likelier.

“Raheem Sterling’s future is in the balance. Options are staying at Chelsea or moving to Arsenal. Developing conversations. Those close to Sterling less confident on Manchester United proceeding.”

This has been corroborated by Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol who wrote on X, “It’s looking likely that Raheem Sterling will stay at Chelsea or move to Arsenal today. There is just as much chance of him staying as leaving. Sterling is not involved in any club to club discussions. His immediate future will depend on how conversations develop today.”

“Sterling’s family are settled in London and he wants to play regularly in the Premier League. He also want to win back his place in the England squad.”

“Sterling has worked with Mikel Arteta before and he has a very good relationship with him. Arsenal are a model club who challenge for titles and they are in the Champions League. Sterling has three years left on his Chelsea contract so he is not under pressure to move.”

Sterling made 31 top-flight appearances in the 2023/24 season and registered eight goals and four assists.
