After struggling to score goals last term, Manchester United decided to reinforce their forward line in the summer and in came Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

The Red Devils paid more than his release clause to land him ahead of Serie A clubs like Juventus and AC Milan. And the start could not have been better with the Netherlands international scoring on his debut.

However, since then, the 23-year-old, while impressing in his link-up play, has struggled to find the back of the net, spurning numerous glorious chances along the way.

Rasmus Hojlund’s return from injury saw Erik ten Hag take out his summer signing from the firing line and following his goal against Brentford last weekend, the Dane is expected to continue up top moving forward.

Zirkzee struggling

The lack of starts has not done Zirkzee any favours with his confidence levels plummeting, so much so, that he is contemplating a return to Italy.

As relayed by The Peoples Person earlier, he is open to leaving in January with JuveLive even revealing that the forward has given his green light to the Turin-based outfit for the transfer.

“Zirkzee to Juventus, here we go again: he has already said yes. Among the possible destinations, Juventus seems to be one of the most concrete options.

“The Bianconeri are looking for a striker with the characteristics of Zirkzee, especially with a view to offensive reinforcement.”

A move to the Old Lady makes sense as the club are currently being managed by Thiago Motta, formerly of Bologna, and someone who got the best out of Zirkzee in the past.

Wants to join Juventus

INEOS might have other plans and they might not agree to a separation so soon after signing the player. Last season, the 20-time English league champions had suffered as a result of not having any backup for Hojlund.

They do not want to repeat that mistake and if they do let the Dutch forward go, they will have to spend a lot to land a replacement.

Zirkzee has a different profile to that of the Denmark international and Ten Hag can utilise his skillset in a number of different ways.

The player and the fans should not lose hope so soon as it was always expected that the former Bayern Munich star would take time to adapt to his new surroundings. We will hopefully get to see the best of him sometime down the line.
