Juventus are determined to sign Manchester United star Mason Greenwood this summer and have made him their top priority, a new report claims.
According to Corriere dello Sport“the new Juve takes off” and new head coach Thiago Motta is determined to make United his priority signing this summer.
“The main target remains Mason Greenwood, the 22-year-old winger of Manchester United who again succeeded at a high level at Getafe in the season that just ended,” the release states.
Reports are starting to gather pace in Italy about a potential transfer. It is known that United believe it is best to sell the striker, whose reintegration into the United squad is fraught with political and ethical questions and whose contract expires in a year.
However, determined to land him, the Old Lady are unwilling to pay United’s asking price for Greenwood, whose value has plummeted following criminal charges brought against him two years ago.
As previously reported, their intention is to raise funds by selling Federico Chiesa, Filip Kostic or Samuel Iling Junior. About Chiesa, Corriere claims that:
“An offer of 25-30 million is needed for an Italian striker that will convince Juve and, of course, a club that will satisfy the player’s wishes.
“It is no coincidence that his agent, Fali Ramadani, is arriving in Italy and will tour the horizon with (Juve sporting director) Giuntoli and with parties potentially interested in his client.
“At that point, Juve would have the resources to turn to a replacement, actually Greenwood.
“United are shooting high – at least 35-40 million euros – because they have to give 20% of the income to Getafe. An exaggerated figure, in any case, as the Englishman’s contract expires in 2025.
All this suggests that the Turin club will expect to use the funds from Chiesa’s sale to fully finance Greenwood’s purchase. They don’t notice that Chiesa’s contract is also up in a year, so his price might be a bit exaggerated as well.
For United, selling a player of Greenwood’s age and ability for even €35m (£30m) would be a disaster, although some argue that profiting from his sale in general is unethical after what happened in 2022.
For Juventus, trading a weak and hapless star for a reborn 22-year-old with world-class potential would be a huge deal indeed.
