Juventus are set to approach Manchester United with their “first official offer” to sign Jadon Sancho on loan, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Italian transfer expert reveals the Old Lady are keen to “further strengthen the attack available to Thiago Motta” following the signing of two forwards this week – Nico Gonzalez on a permanent deal from Fiorentina and Porto’s Francisco Conceicao on loan.
There had been reports suggesting Juventus would end their long-standing interest in Sancho if they were to agree deals for Gonzalez and Conceicao but the Serie A giant look set to push forward in negotiations with United as the summer transfer window draws to a close.
Liverpool are actively pursuing Federico Chiesa, who has also been linked to Barcelona, and the Italian forward’s departure from Turin would create space in Motta’s squad for Sancho.
Di Marzio reveals Juventus’ sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, will present a loan offer to Old Trafford executives. It is expected to include a request for “part of [Sancho’s] salary to be covered by the English club.”
In response, Di Marzio contends United will “ask for a high amount for the loan.”
The club’s preference had been to sell Sancho on a permanent deal this summer. A fee in the region of £40 million was set for the 24-year-old winger but there was no appetite amongst his potential suitors in paying this price.
United were also open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy but, so far, have yet to receive this type of offer.
Juventus’ preference appears to be a straight loan with the Bianconeri likely wanting to use the pressure of the August 30 deadline to force United’s hand in negotiations.
This week, however, Chelsea have emerged as a “serious rival” to the Italian club in the hunt for Sancho.
United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, has “opened talks” with his Stamford Bridge counterparts over a deal; one which could include Raheem Sterling, with Ashworth described as “particularly enthusiastic” over a possible swap deal for the two English wingers.
While the club who wins the race for Sancho remains to be seen, it feels increasingly certain the 24-year-old will be leaving United this week and has likely already played his last game for the club following a disappointing three year spell at Old Trafford.
