Manchester United have confirmed their travelling squad for Thursday’s Europa clash against Liga Portugal giants FC Porto.
Erik ten Hag’s will undoubtedly be eager to get back to winning ways as they meet Porto at Estádio do Dragão. United will be heading into the match off the back of a disastrous 0-3 defeat at the hands of Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
A few days before that, United were held to a frustrating 1-1 home draw by Eredivisie outfit FC Twente.
There is therefore a lot of pressure on Ten Hag and his players to clinch a victory, as nothing short of that is likely to appease a fanbase that’s steadily growing disgruntled with how the season has started.
Earlier today, it emerged that Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire were part of an open training session at Carrington.
Mainoo was forced off against Spurs with an apparent injury while Maguire was not even part of the matchday squad, after picking up a knock.
United have now confirmed that both players are part of the 23-man travelling squad for Thursday’s match against Porto.
Mason Mount, who also had to be withdrawn in the second half of Sunday’s meeting with Spurs due to a head injury, did not train on Wednesday as a precautionary measure.
It’s understood that the England international is not part of the contingent that will fly to Portugal.
United further state, “Academy graduate Dan Gore has been included in the squad, after captaining our Under-21s in their 1-1 draw against Hertha Berlin on Tuesday evening.”
“Tyrell Malacia was spotted in training but will play no part on Thursday, as he continues to build up his fitness following a lengthy injury lay-off.”
Here’s the full travelling squad:
Goalkeepers: Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Andre Onana.
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui.
Midfielders: Casemiro, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Dan Gore, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte.
Forwards: Amad Diallo, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee.
Porto vs. United kicks off at 20:00 BST.
