Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis suffered what the team called a “rare injury” to his left leg and is considered day-to-day for Boston’s upcoming games in the NBA Finals.

The Celtics announced Tuesday that Porzingis has a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg.

Porzingis, who missed 10 consecutive games earlier this postseason because of a right calf strain, suffered this latest injury in the third quarter of Boston’s Game 2 victory Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Celtics said Tuesday that the two injures are unrelated. Porzingis said after Sunday’s game that he expected to be on the court for Game 3 in Dallas on Wednesday.

Porzingis hasn’t played in Dallas in the 2 1/2 years since he was traded by the Mavericks to the Washington Wizards. The 28-year-old joined the Celtics in a trade last summer.

Porzingis jump-started the Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA Finals with 11 points and two blocks in the first quarter of the 107-89 win. He finished with 20 points, three blocks and six rebounds.
