Trent Alexander-Arnold caused a stir when he said Liverpool’s trophies “mean more to our fans” than Man City, and Kyle Walker has now proved him right.

City’s players were quick to hit back at Alexander-Arnold’s comments from earlier in the season, when he insisted that “our trophies will mean more to us and our fan base”.

“The way both clubs have built their squads and the way we’ve done it probably means more to our fans,” the Scouser added, really making sure his point got across.

His comments have been picked apart and scrutinized, and now Walker has all but proved he was right all along – not that we’ve ever disagreed with number 66!

Asked by Sky Sports ‘if you won the Euros with England, would that mean more than the treble with City?’, Walker replied: “Yes, I think so. I actually know.

“If you said a specific trophy, that would be an easy answer for me. To do the treble, what we’ve achieved – only one other team has done it – so it’s pretty unique.

“But to win something for your country, you have to be on a different scale. To walk around my hometown and know that I brought the European Championship back to this country, that would mean a lot.

“As difficult a question as it is, I’d have to say winning something with England (would mean more).”

Why there was such a reaction to Alexander-Arnold’s words is quite a mystery after these comments, it obviously means more! It always is.

In support of Alexander-Arnold’s comments, Jurgen Klopp said at the time: “One of our slogans, which I like, is ‘this means more.’

“It means more to us. This club is special for us. So if we feel it, why shouldn’t we be allowed to say it? I’m not really interested in them (foreign opinions). It’s just how it feels.”
