Manchester United have confirmed the bad news that Leny Yoro suffered a metatarsal injury against Arsenal on Sunday morning.

Yoro limped off against the Gunners and despite hopes it might be precautionary, the news this morning is pretty depressing for United fans wanting to see the new signing in action.

According to The MEN, the club has announced that Yoro has fractured his metatarsal and will be out of action for three months.

The outlet reports that “Yoro, 18, is keen to stay with the squad for the remainder of their pre-season tour of the United States and will be assessed again when he returns to the UK to provide a clearer view.”

In more bad news, Rasmus Hojlund’s injury is also worse than expected.

The Dane also was subbed against Arsenal, after just 11 minutes, and this too was seen as precautionary. It was even reported last night that he might only miss this morning’s friendly against Real Betis.

However, it has now emerged that he has a pulled hamstring and will miss the first six weeks of the season.

The MEN notes that he “will miss the Community Shield against Manchester City, the opening Premier League fixture at home to Fulham, the away game against Brighton and the visit of Liverpool.

“The Denmark international could be available after the September internationals.”

After enduring the worst season on record for injuries last time around, manager Erik ten Hag would have been hoping the curse has been broken in 2024/25, but this news suggests the opposite.

United are now preparing for this morning’s match against Real Betis with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof as the centre back pairing, with Jonny Evans in reserve.

Lisandro Martinez will resume training in Manchester.

As The MEN also notes, the news of Yoro’s injury in particular could increase the urgency to sign a second centre back this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite among the candidates.

Both are keen to join, with De Ligt having already agreed personal terms with United.
