Liverpool’s cautious pursuit of Lille centre-back Leny Yor now appears to be over, with the club “aware” he has told Real Madrid he wants to join.
When reports emerged of the Reds’ interest in Yoro, it was claimed that they were just waiting in the wings for a deal with Real to fall through.
However, that is unlikely to be the case now, with Atletico’s Mario Cortegana reporting that the 18-year-old is open to a move to the Bernabeu.
“Yoro has informed Real Madrid that he wants to join the club,” writes Cortegana, and the young French international is “satisfied with the proposed personal terms.”
It is emphasized that “a deal has yet to be agreed” and that at this stage “there have been no direct talks” between Real and Lille.
But while Real are understood to be significantly short of Lille’s €60m (£50.7m) asking price – willing to offer closer to €40m (£33.8m) – it is suggested Yoro would be willing to wait.
“If Selide progresses, he would like to join the club this summer or next, depending on whether Madrid and Lille can reach an agreement,” Cortegana wrote.
With Yoro’s contract at Lille expiring next summer, the suggestion would be that he could hold out on a free transfer to Real if a deal is not reached.
As for Liverpool, it explained: “Most of his suitors believed he (Yoro) would move to the Bernabeu, even if a deal did not materialize immediately.
“And those courting Yor are now aware of his intentions.”
It was widely reported that Liverpool saw the youngster as apart of any transfer plans, with his status as a generational talent seen as a rare opportunity.
The Liverpool Echo claim that signing another centre-back is “not an immediate priority” for the club, although that remains to be seen.
Yoro would be the third high-profile target to spurn interest from Anfield to join Real in as many years, with Aurelien Chuameni heading to Madrid in 2022 and Jude Bellingham a year later.
