Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has vowed to return to action even stronger, in a message addressed to fans via social media.
On Monday, United confirmed that Yoro underwent successful surgery on his fractured metatarsal.
The 18-year-old sustained the issue in the first half of United’s 2-1 pre-season defeat at the hands of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side.
The new United signing was taken off while limping, sparking widespread concerns among supporters.
United stated that Yoro is set to miss around three months of action while he recovers from the physical setback he picked up at the SoFi Stadium.
The Frenchman is expected to come back in November, in a major blow to his hopes of hitting the ground running at Old Trafford.
Yoro took to Instagram and posted a picture of himself on a hospital bed, presumably after his operation.
He captioned the photo with the message, “This is not the start I wanted, but that’s football…”
“The operation went well. Thank you for your many messages of support”
“Now, time for patience and rehabilitation work.”
“See you soon, stronger”
A number of United players replied to Yoro’s post, expressing their support.
Rasmus Hojlund – who is also injured – wrote, “Back stronger my bro.”
According to The Manchester Evening News, United have not been left too down about the Yoro setback.
The 20-time English champions consider the lay-off a pristine opportunity for the former Lille man to settle into life in Manchester and make himself comfortable in his new surroundings.
The newspaper however notes that Yoro being sidelined almost certainly means that the club will dip into the transfer market for additional defensive reinforcements.
Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt is a player United are pursuing.
