New Delhi: Lionel Messi scored but couldn’t prevent Inter Miami from going down 1-3 to Atalanta United in Major League Soccer.

It was Messi’s 11th goal of the season but the defeat ended Miami’s 10-match unbeaten streak in the league that stretched for nearly two months.

They had won seven and drawn three of their last 10 games but were undone by Atalanta on Wednesday night.

Saba Lobjanidze scored a brace – one in each half – while Jamal Thiare netted the other for the winning team.

Messi struck in the 62nd minute to reduce the margin to 1-2 with a left footed shot from outside the box to go level with his team-mate in the scoring charts.

The Argentine superstar cut in on his preferred left foot, took a touch to steady himself an set his target before unleashing a grounder that found the bottom corner of the net.

But ultimately it wasn’t enough for Miami on the night.

Messi is next expected to play for Argentina in Copa America that begins next month and will be played in USA.

Argentina are the defending champions having beaten Brazil in the final last time.
