Luis Diaz has been the subject of various transfer rumors in recent weeks, but the latest reports suggest that Liverpool ‘do not want to sell’ their winger.
The 27-year-old has been linked with Barcelona and PSG in recent times, fueling speculation that he could be one of the players to leave Anfield this summer.
Diaz’s father has spoken several times about his son and a move to Barcelona, although the Spanish side currently do not have enough funds to force Liverpool’s hand.
And it should be forced as Athletic’s David Orstein has stated that the club do not want to sell the Colombian, who has a contract until 2027.
He is seen as an ‘integral’ part of the team, a stance that won’t surprise many but could be debated among fans.
Sam Diaz recently insisted he is “very happy” at Liverpool and believes “great years are ahead for the club”, despite Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure.
“The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about it – said Diaz.
New wide player in the summer
The Diaz line comes two weeks after Ornstein claimed Liverpool were ready to target a new “wide player” in the summer.
At the time, the No. 7’s name was thrown into the discussion amid doubts over his future, but Liverpool are seemingly keen to keep hold of the Colombia international.
The Reds have been linked with a number of forwards, including Leeds’ Crysencia Summerville, who Mail claims will require a fee of over £30m and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.
However, the Toons have no intention of letting Gordon go, and would be asking far more than £30m to do so!
PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus and Palace’s Michael Olise have also been checked, and it will be interesting to see how this develops in the summer.
The club needs reliable goalscorers at the top – in terms of availability and goalscoring – and the recent plight has shed light on what new sporting director Richard Hughes will focus on this summer.
