Feyenoord coach Etienne Reijnen is not expected to join Liverpool this summer due to work permit issues.

Arne Slott had hoped to bring the 37-year-old to Anfield with him alongside fellow assistant Sipke Hulshoff following their success together at De Kuip.

However, reports emerged last week suggesting that Reijnen’s move could be blocked by his inability to obtain a work permit in the UK.

And the Dutchman has now privately confirmed that he expects to stay at Feyenoord.

The news comes as a blow to Slott, who has yet to fill several vacancies on his staff.

Liverpool still need a new goalkeeping coach following the departures of John Achterberg and Jack Robinson.

They also recently advertised for a coach ready to train, and will likely need an alternative to analyst and technical advisor Reijnen.

As such, the club’s decision-makers have plenty of work to do before pre-season kicks off on July 1.

The goalkeeper coach doubts it

Feyenoord goalkeeper coach Jyri Nieminen has played down the likelihood of Sloto joining Liverpool this summer.

As previously reported This is AnfieldNieminen was under consideration to join Claudio Taffarello in coaching the club’s goalkeepers next term.

However, the 36-year-old has now seemingly dismissed the possibility, insisting he is more likely to stay at current club Feyenoord.

Speaking to a Finnish magazine, Apuhe said: “Everything about Liverpool was going on, and of course I was thinking about it.

“With great probability, I will continue with Feyenoord next season as well. The situation will change if it changes.”
