Liverpool are not considering a move for Sporting CP center Goncalo Inacio this summer.

Reports emerged earlier this week claiming that the Reds and Man United were monitoring the 22-year-old with a view to making a move in the near future.

However, This is Anfield understands that Inacio is not on Liverpool’s list of potential targets at centre-back.

Instead, the latest links are thought to be an attempt to drum up interest in a player who has long been linked with the Premier League.

Liverpool have been monitoring a number of potential defensive targets since last summer in anticipation of reinforcements in that area.

The emergence of Jarell Quansah ultimately eased the need to do business ahead of last season, but the departure of Joel Matip on a free transfer has reopened a potential vacancy.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho and Lila youngster Leny Yoro are among the names most frequently linked in recent weeks.

Liverpool have paid £20m for defender Sepp van den Berg after a successful loan spell at Mainz.

Reports in Germany suggested a purchase option, worth just €5m (£4.2m), was present in the season-long deal that took the Dutchman to the Bundesliga.

However, This is Anfield understands those claims are out of bounds and the Reds will be able to set their asking price amid strong interest in Van den Berg.

Brentford and newly promoted Southampton are among the clubs believed to be interested in signing the 22-year-old.

But it is understood Liverpool will wait before making a decision on whether to move on, with Slott keen to watch his compatriot in pre-season.
