The signings of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister last summer saw Liverpool sign midfielders for £80m less than estimated, a new study claims.

Szoboszlai and Mac Allister arrived at Anfield last summer for a combined £95m – and have quickly established themselves as key players in midfield.

Only Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz played more minutes than Mack Allister, as the pair finished the campaign as sixth top scorers with seven each.

Their prominence during Jurgen Klopp’s final season underlined the excellent work Liverpool did when they activated the release clauses in their contracts.

Szoboszlai arrived from RB Leipzig for £60m, while Mac Allister was one of the best deals for any club, arriving from Brighton for just £35m.

According to a new study by the CIES Observatory, which lists the 100 most valuable players worldwide based on transfer value, Liverpool managed to get the pair at a saving of 80.6 million pounds.
