FC Cincinnati midfielder Luciano ‘Lucho’ Acosta has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 15, the league announced Monday.

Acosta has appeared on nine of the 15 MLS Team of the Matchday recognitions this season, the most of any player in the league.

The 2023 Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player had a part in all three goals for Cincinnati in Saturday night’s 3-1 win over visiting St. Louis CITY SC. With three goal contributions (1 G, 2 A), Acosta recorded the first 3+ goal contribution game for an FC Cincinnati player in MLS play since Sept. 10, 2022 vs San Jose Earthquakes (Brenner – 3 G, Acosta – 1G, 2A), the 11th in club history.

His 26th minute goal from the penalty spot was his 150th career MLS Regular Season goal contribution, making him only the second active player across MLS to reach that milestone (Kei Kamara) and just the 15th player all-time to accomplish the feat.

Acosta then assisted Yuya Kubo’s goal in the 49th minute and Sergio Santos’ strike in the 80th, providing precise passes to each leading to the second and third goals on the night for the Orange and Blue. Acosta leads MLS since the start of 2023 with 14 games of two-plus goals or assists and 11 games of at least one goal and one assist.

Saturday marked Acosta’s eighth straight game with a goal contribution, which set a new club record and is the longest active streak in MLS.

Acosta’s weekly Team of the Matchday honor is the 17th recognition for an FC Cincinnati player or coach on the weekly team this season. A full list of 2024 FC Cincinnati matchday honors:
