Manchester United are reportedly inching closer towards finding an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Ugarte is one of the options under strong consideration at Old Trafford to potentially replace the ageing and declining Casemiro. The Brazilian is looking increasingly likely to leave United as he continues to be strongly linked with a switch to the Saudi Pro League.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person divulged that United had tabled an opening bid for Ugarte, which was swiftly rejected by PSG as it fell short of their valuation of the South American.

It was stated that the Red Devils remained in talks with the reigning Ligue 1 champions to try and find middle ground over the transfer fee.

Ugarte would love to play for United as doesn’t feel like he has a future in France.

A recent update indicated that the Red Devils lodged a second offer for Ugarte, worth around €45m including bonuses.

FootMercato journalist Santi Aouna has now stated that conversations between the two European clubs have “become closer in recent hours” and there is optimism that an agreement will be found soon.

The newspaper points out, “Although he did not want to hear about a departure, Manuel Ugarte has resigned himself and already sees himself playing at Manchester United in the coming weeks. The Manchester club and the Parisian team have seen their positions come closer in recent days.”

“The prospect of joining Manchester United appeals to him more and more. Firstly because he particularly appreciates the emblematic English club which has been interested in his profile for a few weeks.”

“Discussions have even been taking place for a while between the two clubs. But according to our information, the positions are getting closer and the idea of seeing Manuel Ugarte with the Manchester United jersey is gaining more and more weight.”

FootMercato explain that all that’s left is for Uruguay’s participation in the ongoing Copa America to end before a move to England for Ugarte accelerates.

United are not the only club keen on adding Ugarte to their ranks. Manchester City and Barcelona also have him on their radar.
