Manchester United have confirmed that Antony suffered an ankle sprain during the club’s Europa League draw against Fenerbahce on Thursday.

Antony came on from the bench in the 73rd minute, replacing Marcus Rashford.

However, the Brazilian’s cameo lasted just 16 minutes before he signalled to the bench that he needed to be substituted due to an injury.

The problem didn’t seem to be too serious but Antony fell to the turn and a stretcher was required to take him from the pitch.

After the final whistle, he was pictured leaving Fenerbahce’s stadium on crutches while also wearing a protective boot.

Erik ten Hag spoke to club media and expressed his sympathy for Antony. The United boss also remarked that an update on his fitness would be provided in due time.

United now state, “Erik ten Hag’s side will face West Ham without Antony, who was missing from Saturday’s training session due to an ankle sprain he picked up in the closing stages of the game against Fenerbahce.”

According to Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst, the Red Devils are still assessing the severity of the issue to determine how long Antony will be ruled out of action.

It’s understood that United are pleased the injury is not as serious as initially thought.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes and Jonny Evans were back in training with the club working at the Gaughan Group Stadium in East London, ahead of Sunday’s clash against West Ham.

Gaughan Group Stadium is the home of League One outfit Leyton Orient and is just a small distance away from the London Stadium.

Fernandes missed the meeting against Fenerbahce through suspension whole Evans was not available for selection due to a knock he sustained in last weekend’s comeback win over Brentford.
