Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has reportedly passed his medical ahead of a permanent transfer to La Liga outfit Girona.

United forked out £40m to sign Van de Beek from Ajax in 2020. He arrived at Old Trafford to a lot of expectations but unfortunately, he didn’t live up to them.

The Netherlands international started just four Premier League games in his maiden season in England and in no time, he found himself firmly at the bottom of the pecking order, even after the arrival of his former coach at Ajax Erik ten Hag.

Van de Beek has had loan spells at Everton and more recently in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt but unfortunately, both temporary tenures did very little in the way of breathing life into his struggling football career.

A report covered by The Peoples Person over the weekend revealed that Girona were closing in on landing Van de Beek for a nominal fee.

It was stated that Girona struck an agreement with United for just €500,000 (£420,000).

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano subsequently explained that United would recover most of the money they paid for Van de Beek through a number of add-ons and performance-related bonuses.

This could see the final fee for the 27-year-old rise to as much as €5m (£4.2m).

On Monday, Romano divulged that Girona were on the brink of agreeing personal terms with Van de Beek and a medical was scheduled to take place.

Journalist Nil Solà gave an update and indicated that there were no complications when the United man was being subjected to tests.

Solà wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Girona has the idea that tomorrow Gabriel Misehouy will train with the team in Vilablareix.”

“With Van de Beek the agreement with United is total and details are missing with theirs.”

“He won’t train tomorrow, but he has already passed his medical.”

As per Solà, Van de Beek has put pen to paper on a contract running until 2028 with the Champions League club.
