Manchester United’s pre-season tour to the United States did not start well as new signing Leny Yoro and the club’s new No 9 Rasmus Hojlund both suffered injuries.

It has since been revealed that the Frenchman has suffered a broken metatarsal which will likely keep him out of action for at least three months.

This means the 18-year-old will miss the first nine Premier League games as well as three Europa League group stage encounters along with the curtain-raiser at Wembley against Manchester City.

Following Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala‘s departure, and with Victor Lindelof‘s future far from secure, this injury means United need to address this situation on an urgent basis.

CB needed urgently following Yoro injury update

It is clear that they cannot rely on Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans for large parts of the season, as they were forced to do last time out.

United have already seen two bids rejected by Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite while Bayern Munich’s demands for Matthijs de Ligt have so far proved to be beyond the Red Devils’ means.

As per The Daily Telegraph, United are expected to accelerate their plans of signing defensive cover and are expected to go back in for either one or both centre-back targets.

“Manchester United are under increased pressure to sign another centre-back and striker after being dealt a huge double injury blow to Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund.

“United were already hoping to bring in another centre-back in the shape of Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt or Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite but Yoro’s injury could now accelerate those plans.”

It was initially thought that the Dane’s injury would not be as serious but he has also suffered a hamstring injury and is likely to miss six weeks of action.

United cannot rely solely on Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee has been signed from Bologna but the Red Devils are back in the same situation as last season, having to rely heavily on a youngster who has no prior experience of playing in England.

INEOS want to avoid the same scenario from playing out and Ivan Toney of Brentford remains an option. However, as previously relayed by The Peoples Person, the Bees need to lower their demands for the deal to go though.

“Erik ten Hag would also like another attacker, with Brentford’s Ivan Toney an option, after Hojlund’s injury left new £36.5m signing Joshua Zirkzee, who is unproven in the Premier League, as their only striker.”

The 20-time English league champions need to move players on so that they can get reinforcements in and fast. The Community Shield is only nine days away.
