Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was involved in a disastrous moment that proved very costly for Turkey as they were convincingly beaten 3-0 by Portugal in their Euro 2024 clash on Saturday night.

Portugal booked their place in the Euro 2024 final as Group F winners thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva, a Samet Akaydin own goal and a late strike from Bruno Fernandes.

Meanwhile, the result left Turkey second in their group, two points above the Czech Republic in third.

While Bayindir and his teammates will undoubtedly be disappointed by the loss, the manner in which the second goal was conceded in particular left much to be desired.

Joao Cancelo broke the ball forward as he tried to find Cristiano Ronaldo. The attack appeared to have been neutralized, but an unsuspecting Akaydin inexplicably passed the ball back towards goal just as Bayindir was coming out to clear the danger.

Both Bayindir and Akaydin tried to go back in a last ditch effort to clear the ball but were unsuccessful and it crossed the line.

During his time on the pitch for his side, Bayindir made just one save. The one save he made came from the Turkiye box.

He failed to successfully register a high claim, kick or run off his line.

The 26-year-old had 39 touches of the ball to his name and successfully found teammates with 26 of the 32 passes he attempted. He achieved a passing accuracy of 81%.

Bayindir tried to connect with 10 long balls. He found his target on five occasions.

United won the one aerial duel in which he participated.
