Manchester United youngsters Ethan Wheatley and Elyh Harrison are among four academy starlets who have been called up to represent England’s youth teams this summer.

The pair have been named in the under-18 squad for the upcoming friendlies against Northern Ireland and Morocco.

Harrison was included as part of a goalkeeping contingent that also included George Pickford and Sam Proctor.

Meanwhile, his teammate Wheatley will be fighting for a place in the team against other forwards such as Ato Ampah, Romelle Donovan, Ajay Matthews, Elijah Morrison, Mathew Warhurst and Kadan Young.

This latest achievement for Harrison and Wheatley comes off the back of the pair winning two of United’s most prestigious academy awards at the end of the season.

Wheatley won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award, while Harrison was presented with the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award. The former in particular has had a very exciting few weeks.

He became the 250th academy graduate to represent United’s first team when he came off the bench in the 4-2 win against Sheffield United last month.

Wheatley has since made two more appearances for United.

In the U18 Premier League this term, the forward was sensational. He plundered an impressive eight goals and two assists in seven appearances.

The 18-year-old has also made the step up to Under-21 football and has scored a total of 14 goals at various levels.

Harrison in goal has been equally impressive this term and continues to have a bright future ahead of him at Old Trafford.

In the U18 Premier League, Harrison has conceded just six goals in five games and has kept one clean sheet.

In addition to Wheatley and Harrison, the Three Lions have invited two more Reds, this time in the younger age group.

Full-back Harry Amass and midfielder Jack Fletcher are part of the 21-man squad that will play at the European Under-17 Championship.

All four players mentioned played a key role as the under-18s achieved success in the Premier League North. The Red Devils also won the Premier League Cup final and won the national league title after beating Chelsea 2-1.

Their call-ups to the England squad are fully deserved and we hope they will prove their mettle this summer.
